Records 1862-1865.

The records consist of "Orderly" books, two from Company A and one from Company F of the 41st Alabama. Of the two books on Company A, one was kept by Captain H. H. Sartain and the other was probably kept by Captain T. G. Trimmier, who was later promoted. These two cover 1862-1865. The book on Company F, may have been kept by Captain B. F. Eddins. This book covers 1864-1865. The records include lists of the men, with detailed physical descriptions, including age, height, hair and eye color, and birthplace. There are records of clothing disbursements that show what items were issued to individual soldiers. There are charts that show which soldiers were present at which battles. There are lists of ordnance on hand and ordnance surrendered. Captain Sartain's record of Company A is the most extensive, including lists of promotions, demotions, transfers, deaths, deserters, wounded, absentees, and court martials. It also includes some interesting miscellaneous items such as promissory notes Sartain wrote and received, and a contract between Sartain and his employers arranging for him to teach school after the war. There are also penciled annotations by Sartain's son, J. W. Sartain.
